Medzi aktívne sieťové prvky zaraďujeme tie komponenty, ktoré dokážu nejakým spôsobom pracovať so sieťovým signálom. Ich hlavnou úlohou je prepojiť medzi sebou všetky prvky siete a v neposlednom rade majú za úlohu aj zosilniť, modifikovať alebo vyhodnocovať sieť .
